Prescribed Reading Lists
As a language A: literature SSST student you will have to read nine books. All of them have to be selected from a list of authors that the IB has created, called the Prescribed reading list (click here). You can use the search filter in the Prescribed reading list to find the specific list for your language of study.
Requirements
There are some requirements that have to be met when selecting the works for the SSST course:
- 9 works overall, written by authors on the Prescribed reading list
- a minimum of 2 works studied linked to each of the areas of exploration of the course
- coverage of at least 3 of the 4 literary forms (poetry, drama, fiction, non-fiction)
- coverage of at least 3 periods
- a minimum of 4 works originally written in the language A being studied, by authors on the Prescribed reading list
- a minimum of 3 works translated into your language A, originally written in a different language than the language A being studied, by authors on the Prescribed reading list
- works from a minimum of 3 places as defined by the Prescribed reading list in relation to the language A you are studying, covering at least 2 different continents (if applicable).
